Fifth

RandomK(e) will hold it's Fifth Anniversary concert at 2 Kolegas on Saturday, 27 March. Those who cross over the threshold and enter the fold shall become a part of Carnival, RandomK(e)'s multi-sensory overload of the frontal lobe scheduled to last throughout the evening. Amongst many other things planned, expect:

- A celebration of Earth Hour! At 8:30pm all lights in major cities around the planet will be turned off. Attendees encouraged to bring their own handheld light sources.

- Warm food made to order!

- Live music from dark corners of the lawn!

- All new material from RandomK(e)!

- A live donkey! (permits pending)

...and more! What's better, if you're an early bird and arrive before 9pm you'll get in for the discounted price of 30rmb. That's 40 percent savings off the regular ticket price for those who care about these things. Be seeing you!

28 February, 2010 - RandomK(e) to open for U.S. space rock group Secret Machines at Yu Gong Yi Shan on Friday, 19 March

Secret Machines

RandomK(e) will perform an opening set for U.S. space/prog heavies Secret Machines at Yu Gong Yi Shan on Friday, March 19. Rolling Stone has likened Secret Machines' music to a mix of "Pink Floyd psychedelica, Led Zeppelin stomp and The Who-inspired choruses" infused with big beats, atmospheric keyboards and electronic whooshes. Sounds like its just up the K(e)'s alley. This should be a good show! Girl Kill Girl also opens.

2 February, 2010 - RandomK(e) Fifth Anniversary Show to descend upon 2 Kolegas in late March

5th flyer

RandomK(e) will celebrate its fifth year of existence with an event infused with randomness, art, more randomness, and of course the music of the K(e). Save the date: Saturday, 27 March, 2010 at 2 Kolegas. We’ve got quite a few ideas up our sleeves for this show, so you won’t want to miss it. Look for the K(e) to premiere new music and generally assault your frontal lobe from all directions. More details coming soon, stay tuned.

1 February, 2010 - RandomK(e) members release solo albums on REVERSE<<<POLARITY cassette tape series

Two members of RandomK(e), Jackson Garland (under the moniker jrg_one)and Richard Todd, will each release a solo album in January and April this year respectively as part of Tag Team Records’ REVERSE<<<POLARITY cassette tape series. The series features 12 different musicians and bands from the Beijing music scene. Each artist, in keeping with the DIY aesthetic of the series, fully recorded and produced their album at home for release on cassette. Every tape is hand-numbered, features cover art by Beijing artist and musician Pupi (Bigger Bang) and liner notes/art created by the musician themselves. Each release, limited to only 120 copies each, costs 50 rmb and is available for purchase at Tag Team’s website and also at Bye Bye Disco in Beijing, INDIEVOX in Shanghai and White Noise Records in Hong Kong. A web link included with each tape allows those who have purchased it to download a digital version of the music as well, a real analog and digital one-two punch.

jrg_one tape coverSlim Charles vs. Carl Sagan (TTRP001)

The first tape in the series, Slim Charles vs. Carl Sagan by jrg_one, was released on 19 January, 2010. Look for Summer Death Mask Candy Trap by Richard Todd to be released in April. Both releases explore the darker and more experimental musical tendencies of each artist. This is music best listened to with the lights turned off. Excerpts from each release will be available in the AUDIO section soon.

31 January, 2010 – Raw Space Funk Volume 1 goes viral

RandomK(e) has produced a homemade CD of live improv tracks recorded in basements across Beijing mostly during the latter half of 2009. These recordings, unadorned by mixing, mastering and other polishing, are presented in raw form and capture a different side of the K(e) than official releases. This disc contains an exciting, loose meld of our varied musical styles. This is some gritty and raw “space funk,” certain to scrape some dust out of your third eye. The CD will be available at our live shows and also strategically placed in locations around the physical and virtual worlds, guerilla style. Selections from Raw Space Funk Vol. 1 can now be heard and downloaded in the AUDIO section of the website, and see if you can get your hands on a copy at an upcoming show.

31 January, 2010 – RandomK(e) official website goes live

The official RandomK(e) home on the internet is now online. This website will feature information about upcoming shows, exclusive photos, audio and video downloads, regularly updated news items about everything in the world of the K(e), and more. We’re planning on adding new and exciting content to the site regularly so check back often. Please send RandomK(e) an email to be notified about big events, site updates and other randomness when we feel like it.
